The ifp regional database is an in-house developed tool that was specially designed for location searches. The focus is on the pre-selection of regions, taking into account all company-relevant location factors. The tool draws on ifp empirical values as well as statistical data and thus offers a broad data basis.

In order to supply the European markets, a new production site for cable harness assemblies was sought in Eastern Europe for a leading industrial automation company.

Project goal

The rapid ramp-up of a new production site in a preferred region that meets the customer’s requirements.

From the location search to planning, tendering, ordering all production and logistics equipment to monitoring the renovation and relocation, including ramp-up to operations.

From the five existing production locations, the optimal location for the delivery centre was determined for a medium-sized company that manufactures roller shutters, external Venetian blinds and textile screens.

Project goal

When determining the location of the delivery centre, the focus was on reducing transport costs and improving the service level.

Implementation

Based on the actual process and the customer requirements, the modelling provided a transparent comparison of the transport and wage costs of the respective location options.

ifp’s approach

With the help of the ifp tool “traffic cell planning”, a model was derived for the definition of delivery areas and for mapping the transport relations, the material flow, the product structure and the demand.

Result

On the basis of the model adapted to the company, the number of distribution centres and recommendations for action for the location were transmitted.
