Use case factory planning for our customer in the electrical engineering industry: How could we help?
A forward-looking logistics, production and assembly concept
Our customer, Driescher Moosburg Eisleben, is a medium-sized, globally operating company and supplier of low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switching devices and technology for railroad electrification with over 500 employees and 18 country representatives. As the owner of 300 patents and a manufacturer of compatible, future-proof solutions, Driescher offers its customers – electricity suppliers, municipal utilities, industrial companies, railroad operators and many more – a wide range of products and ensures that the company’s products are always ready for the future. – Driescher offers its customers – municipal utilities, industrial companies, railway operators and many more – a wide range of products and provides a well-founded training program for the next generation of specialists and managers.
With the production in Moosburg (Bavaria) and Eisleben (Saxony-Anhalt) of compatible, future-proof solutions in a modular system that can meet every individual requirement, Driescher is committed to Germany as an industrial location.
The project:
The current plant structure at the main site in Moosburg has grown over the years and shows great potential for optimization. In addition, the planned sales growth will lead to further challenges in production and material planning and control.

Our contribution
Initial situation and problems
The current plant structure shows potential for improvement, particularly in the integration of incoming goods and warehousing as well as the provision of materials in production. In the past, various ideas for restructuring the site, including a greenfield approach, were considered but not pursued. The challenges here are the established plant structure as well as the limited expansion options and the associated restrictions in the structured development of the plant into a future-oriented logistics, production and assembly concept.
Approach and methodology
Logistics, production and assembly as well as order planning and order management are being made fit for the future in 3 modules at the Moosburg site:
1 First, the basics are determined, processes are analyzed, areas are recorded and a common target image is developed. This allowed us to record the status quo and also synchronize the understanding of the challenges to be solved among all project participants. In addition, the solution approaches from the Driescher project team are incorporated and integrated into the solution finding process.
2. optimization potentials are identified through assembly segmentation and a detailed examination of the actual processes. These relate to the vertical range of manufacture (focus on core competencies and core technologies) and to the assembly structures (formation of assemblies, design of assembly lines). From this, the future assembly and logistics concept is developed and finally the target processes for order planning and control are defined.
3. the areas required for the future plant structure are dimensioned and finally the plant structure is developed. Finally, the next steps are outlined in an implementation roadmap.
